Who writes it

Hide Your Crypto is written by Harvinder Bhogal, who also runs YourBitcoinCoach, a private one to one Bitcoin coaching practice. The commercial relationship is stated plainly rather than hidden: this site is free and always will be, and the coaching practice is how the time spent maintaining it is justified.

What that means in practice is that you should read the recommendations here knowing there is a paid service one click away, and judge the advice on whether it stands up without it. It should. Everything on this site can be done alone, for free, using the instructions given.

Why it was rebuilt

This domain previously hosted a guide written in 2021 about anonymising a crypto portfolio. It has been retired and rebuilt from scratch, for two reasons.

The first is that it aged badly, which is the fate of all specific technical advice left unattended. Devices it recommended have been discontinued, software has changed beyond recognition, and prices bear no relation to today. Advice that is out of date is not neutral. It is actively misleading, because it looks authoritative.

The second reason matters more. The old guide framed privacy partly as hiding assets from other people: partners, proceedings, authorities. That framing has been dropped permanently. It attracted the wrong questions and it confused two entirely different things: protecting yourself from criminals, which is what this site teaches, and concealing assets from people legally entitled to know about them, which it does not and will not.

The name stayed because it is honest about what people are trying to do: keep what they own out of the wrong hands. The content changed because the reasons people need that have changed.

What this site will never publish

  • No investment content. No price predictions, no returns, no suggestion that you should buy Bitcoin, no argument that you should hold more of it. Everything here assumes you already own some and want to keep it. In the UK, promoting cryptoasset investments is a regulated activity, and this site stays firmly outside that boundary by having no view whatsoever on whether you should own any.
  • No tax advice, and nothing about avoiding tax. Declare what you owe and speak to a qualified accountant.
  • Nothing about concealing assets from a spouse, a court, an insolvency process, or a tax authority.
  • No affiliate links or paid placements. Where a product is named, it is named because it is the right answer, and you get nothing extra by buying it through us because there is no through us.

How it stays current

Every page carries a visible last reviewed date, and a stale page says so rather than pretending. The full commitment, including how often things are rechecked and how corrections are handled, is set out in the editorial policy.

This exists because the old version of this site is a case study in what happens without it. Security writing that is not maintained becomes a liability to the people who trust it.

For readers who want to go considerably deeper than this site does, particularly on operational privacy, network configuration and identity, the standard reference is Michael Bazzell's work at IntelTechniques. It is more extreme than most people need, which is exactly why it is worth knowing where the ceiling is.

This site deliberately sits below that ceiling: serious protection for people with ordinary lives, jobs and families, who want to hold Bitcoin without reorganising their existence around it.
